Department of Military Affairs-Field Maintenance Shop #13
Delivery Method: General Contractor
Architect: HSR Associates, Inc.
This new 32,924 square-foot facility included vehicle service bays, administrative offices, work areas and personnel areas such as a breakroom with a kitchen, locker rooms, a fitness room and classrooms. The facility provides mechanical service and storage areas for military vehicles and equipment, and includes a fluid/lubricant distribution system, a waste oil collection system, compressed air system, and a vehicle exhaust evacuation system. Concrete floors in the maintenance bays had to be extra thick and durable to accommodate the weight of military vehicles.
The facility was built on over 30 acres, which required removal of rock and grading to over 14′ lower than the original site elevation. There was over 82,000 square-feet of site concrete work done and a retention pond with a fountain was built. The masonry work was extensive.
Equipment storage includes a state-of-the-art high density vertical storage system allowing for more equipment to be stored in a smaller amount of space and with computer aided tracking. A small arms vault was built as part of the structure of the building utilizing concrete and precast walls.
The facility was built to LEED Silver certification standards.
